Fires when a tracked user's account becomes public, private, or unavailable.

A privacy_changed event fires when a tracked user’s account visibility state changes.

Fields

FieldTypeNotes
type"privacy_changed"
authorAuthorThe tracked user, with protected reflecting the new state
reason"now_public" | "now_private" | "unavailable"What the new state is
detectedAtMsnumberUnix milliseconds when we detected the change
latencyMsnumber | nullWall-clock from detection to delivery. null when the event fires outside the normal detection cycle

Reasons

ReasonWhat it means
"now_public"The account is now public. Either it was private and became public, or it was previously unavailable and is now visible. Posts and profile updates resume
"now_private"The account flipped private. Tracking continues but posts and follows aren’t visible to non-followers
"unavailable"We lost the ability to track this user. The account may have been deleted, suspended, or made unreachable for other reasons. Treat this as the end of the tracking lifecycle until you receive "now_public" for the same user

Tracking state

Use reason !== "unavailable" to decide whether tracking is still active for the user:

  • "now_public" and "now_private" mean we are still tracking; new events for this user can arrive
  • "unavailable" means tracking has stopped. Future events for this user will not arrive until a later "now_public" event for the same user
